Word 2007 – help

When I open word on a pc at work it comes up with ‘document 1’ as you would expect however if I exit work and go back in it will go to ‘document 2’ and so on…. Even I I have saved or discarded.

This is not an issue until I use a 3rd party bit of software which generates reports in word. For the report to run it requires word to be closed and even when closed the report fails to run, because it says word is in use and this is down to the incrementing document issue I have… anyone know how to turn it off?
