I installed Office 2010 and all the components are working fine apart from Word. When I open it I get the following error message:

http://i56.tinypic.com/33eu2hj.jpg

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Office 2010, and copying that css7data0009.dll DLL file from a working installation. I've googled and found one person fixed this my reinstalling Office 2010 but that didn't work for me.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I've tried that but had no luck :( I noticed this is only happening on PC's that have Visio 2003 installed. The document itself has some Viso stuff in it so this might be the key.

It could be that the template for word that opens when you start word. the template is corrupt (ie the blank page template).

But this only happens on two computers, all the computers in the office have their Word 2010 to point to the same templates on the file server

Word templates are stored locally somewhere in mydocs or users or something. do google it. it was the problem on my dad's laptop. its old but everything MS office wise loaded fast, except for word took 1 min to load. or crashed.

They seem to be stored here: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Templates, what am I looking for though?

backup docs then uninstall visio 2003. Then install office 2010, check to see if it works, then reinstall Visio.
Sounds like the clash between 2003 and 2010 dlls. they don't like each other.

Sounds like normal.dot might be corrupted. From the image you supplied, your using XP?

Go to C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR-USERNAME\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates
and rename normal.dot to normal.dot.bak. The 'Application Data' folder is hidden.

Start Word and it will make a new normal template when it can't find the old one.

Managed to try the tips today, no luck still getting the error. Word 2010 is using normal.dot on a file server the company uses, so I pointed it to the one in apps/microsoft/templates but its still coming up with the same error.

Seemed to have partially fixed Word 2010 crashing. I used Ccleaner and Revo Uninstaller to remove every trace of any Office product on the PC. I also deleted the Office folders in Program Files and in Documents and Settings/bothaml/Applications/Microsoft. So now theres no trace of Office on the PC.

I then rebooted and went through the Windows Update process. There were about 230MB worth of updates and when right clicking on My Computer and going to Properties it showed Service pack 3 V.6055 (mines V.3xxx) so it appears to have added some further updates. I then ran Word 2010 opened that same document that was crashing and now it doesn’t crash! Although I am doing this through Citrix, when I login as the user Word 2010 still crashes

I have a feeling it was removing all traces of Office that fixed this, particularly the registry entries. But its not really a proper fix as its impractical to be doing this every time I want to install Office 2010.

FIXED: It was the local user profile. Renamed it to old.XXXXX and got the user t login again. All fully functional :) Hope this helps others who might come across this problem. Thanks again for all your help fellow OCers
