Word crashing on computer for one user

This is odd, on the one computer word crashes when opening documents just closes itself but if some else logs into the pc or runs word as their own username it works fine and opens all documents fine.
Guessing the profile is an issue but wondering if someone knows what else to try before deleting the profile
This is a domain computer so profile will be pulled back down from server.
Deleting profile is like giving up so don't want to do that just yet

If word can open itself without opening as document, chec the trust centre settings etc, they may be overly strict.

Yes it does open by itself and can make new docs just can't open existing ones without it crashing out

Is there anything in event viewer that gives any details of what is causing the crash?

I would normally run safe mode and see if documents open then; if they do then look at things like add-ons that the user may have installed.

winword.exe /safe

Used to be you'd rename the normal.dot which holds all the user preferences and it would restart with a clean profile.

I was going to suggest the same. Either clear the office settings for that user or reset their profile settings (depending on how much stuff they have configured this could be messy).

Does sound like a profile issues rather than an office installation issue.

I should add this resets the word profile only.

Not the windows profile. I doubt it's got anything to do with that

Yeah good point - user profile reset is a bit of a nuclear option. Best to try the normal.dot item first
