word is doing my nut in please help

hi,

sorry about this but its driving me crazy.

usually in word when i select a sentence that i dont want i use the shift and arrow keys to select it and the backspace key to delete it, this is no longer working. It works if i use the delete key but im so used to the backspace i just do it automatically

also when i have a sentence selected that i wish to overwrite again using the shift and arrow keys and begin to type with it highlighted, it does not replace the text, instead it just adds to the sentence instead of replacing it

It happened while i was on holiday and had other people using my computer, i've asked them if they changed anything but the answer was no... so i've not idea how it happened

any help much appreciated, otherwise its a reinstall job

thanks but thats not it, already tried...

i dont want it to overwrite automatically, only when i highlight a particular section and begin typing again

Select -- Tools -- Options -- Edit Tab,
then put a tick in the box named 'Typing replaces selection'

You currently have that option unselected.
