Morning All,

Really is too early for this.

I have a lawyer who has a word document with a table in it. There are two separete lines of text in the table which should be showing up as Chinese (PCR) text. Instead the two lines in question just show up as transparent square blocks.

I have tried the following -

Highlighting the text > Tools > Language > Set Language > Chinese (PCR)

OK

Save

Close Document > Reopen document > No joy

Any other suggestions?

TIA:)

Setting the language isn't going to do anything because that only changes the spell checker language (at least that is all I am aware it is doing).

I don't know what PCR is but if it is displaying squares I would assume the font isn't installed. Can you open a new document and type the Chinese in there?

Control Panel -> Regional and Language Options -> "Language" tab; is the "install files for East Asian Language ticked? If not, tick it, insert Windows CD to install and viola, done.

If installed, then I haven't a clue!

Hi Ric,

No it doesnt work. Im leaning towards the font not being installed either but Im about to throw another spanner into the works - the content in the document was copied from another document.

The "other" document when opened on my machine displays the chinese text absolutely fine.

I tried copying the text again and pasting it over the top of the square blocks in my problematic document but still no joy. Removed the squares and tried pasting it in again and still nothing.

Im thinking maybe I need to install the language packs. Yet surely if that is what's required then when opening the "other" document the text shouldnt display properly either should it?

Sorry, sounds a bit convoluted I know.

Ok heres the fix -

The document which displayed the chinese text fine I saved locally as a .DOT file.

I opened the document which displayed the chinese characters as square blocks and did the following -

Tools > Templates and Add Ins > Attach > Navigate to the recently created .DOT file > OK > OK

All fine :)
