Any WP gurus here?

Just updated via FTP to 3.9, but now I can't access any of the admin pages through the wp-admin link.

The main site is visible, I tried making by current theme unusable by adding .old to it's name, this made some sections of the admin pages work but the site was no longer visible.

Any ideas? It would seem that it's my themes fubar-ing it all up but I don't know if I can just empty the folder and start with a fresh new one, which I will need a new one once it all works.
I've posted this on the wordpress forums too.

Ideal you should have your own site set up on your PC to test updates to be on the safe sides. From experience disabling all plugins and theme either through the admin or change the file names manual was the first thing I would do. And as Pho suggested look at your php error log. Most of the times its a plugin that is using some code that is no longer part of wordpress or php or both.

But yeah look into setting up your own personal work space on your PC, download your database and put it on their so you have the same data, then test all updates their.

I've got ftp access to my hosted files but can't see anything even closely called error.

I've re-copied over my wp-admin wp-incudes plus the loose files from the update as some replies say it looks like a couple files were missing. All the files in the root folder were set to over write the old ones.

Forcing it to use the twenty forteen theme and no plugins hasn't allowed me to access the admin pages bar more than a couple inconsequential ones.
