Wordpress Plugin/Widget - Can someone help me modify the Layout?

I'm wondering if there are any php guru's here that could possibly take a look at a widget/plugin I am wanting to use on a website I am designing for a friend of mine.

The plugin in question is this one : YD Recent Posts Widget

The above link is the one I am using for the TimThumb support.

My issues concern the layout of the Widget. Currently it looks like this:

And this is how I would like the layout to be:

If anyone can help I'd greatly appreciate it.

Alternatively if anyone knows of a similar plugin/widget that does the same thing then please list it here.
I've tried to get Visual recent posts working, but had no luck and the YD one is the only one I've had any success with.

Reading through the document provided with the plugin, there is a section about customising the output...
If you want the excerpt only displayed it looks like a hack of the widget
