Hi guys,

I'm after recommendations of themes, plugins etc. that you simply can't live without when using wordpress - ones that will help me enhance and improve a sports club site that I am currently working on :)

Can you tell me what you use and give me a little description of what it does?

Atm I'm looking at ways to adjust the css, through the dashboard if that's possible? Are there any plugins for that incidentally

Thanks!

I'm currently using the following on the site I'm doing:

My Page Order
My Category Order
My Link Order
Wordpress Reusables
Simple Section Navigation Widget

Less is more when it comes to WordPress plugins. The only plugins I use on all my WP sites are:
Google XML Sitemaps
jQuery lazy load (for image heavy sites)
SEO Friendly images

I prefer to do my own SEO but - All in One SEO and Gregs SEO plugins are both good for novices to get indexed but are so heavily used the real SEO value is debatable.

As for sports related plugins search google and the WordPress plugin repository.

WPtouch is good, enables it for mobile devices.

Linky would be nice, and you can edit themes directly from within wordpress. It's in themes>editor. You might have to have a google about to see what does what though...

All in one SEO - for good seo practices
W3 Total Cache - Speeds up loading massively, allows you to use Amazon CDN
Google XML sitemaps - creates sitemaps
Jetpack by WordPress.com - Adds some cool tags, better media support and things

I used to use all-in-one but I have seen better results since switching to Platinum http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/platinum-seo-pack/

If you have lots of links then http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/gocodes/ is a nice tool, it is a short url tool and hides the destination.

Nice simple tool for adding a contact page http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/contact-form-7/

Lots of pages then http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-pagenavi/ is good to add page numbers at the foot of the page.

Themes are a personal preference, I have a whole host saved on my PC just watch out and avoid ones that use hidden base code in the footer

Hi guys,

Sorry to dig this thread up again but is there anything out there for making anchors? Specifically I'm after something that will let me make anchors that link back to the very top of the page I'm working on and not just take me back to the top of the post?

Is there a widget or am I going to have get my hands dirty

Thanks.

Yoast SEO - He helped build All-in-one then went and did his own, does XML and breadcrumbs, amazing plugin.

Contact Form 7 - Easy to use, does what it says

Imsanity - Resizes uploaded images and deletes the originals, vital for saving space for muppets who upload ~4mb images just to use the thubnail

Next Gen Gallery - Great image gallery plugin

s3slider - Simple Image slider plugin.

Really good thread this, especially as I'm just starting to delve into Wordpress for a few sites.

Can anyone recommend any WYSIWYG editor plugins for Wordpress? After something that is almost Dreamweaver-ish that will allow any 'nooby' to edit (specific) pages.

Go fullscreen? Otherwise I don't believe you're getting the idea, you can switch to html mode if needed...
