If you were to produce a website whats best? wordpress or doing it in htlm/css/ php ect.
Whats the advantages in each?
I normally do html/css just as thats the way i have been brought up. Does wordpress take the skill away?

A website I'd do from scratch.

If I wanted a blog with comments, feeds, admin panels, users, groups, blah blah blah then I'd definitely go for Wordpress. You can still theme it and write your own plug-ins to make it behave (almost) how you want.

Wordpress is great. It's flexible, massive amounts of existing plug-ins available and has a large community.

Almost every site I do uses Wordpress - partly because I'm used to it, but mainly because there's not much it can't do. It really is a lot more than just a blog.

I'm hearing good things about Expression Engine too, although I'm yet to try it.

It really depends on what kind of website you're making but wordpress is a fast and easy way to allow users to enter their own data.

wordpress - there is no point reinventing the wheel.

i use it on 100's of my sites keeping it updated via svn. I don't see myself swapping to anything else in the near future.

I wouldn't know where to start, haha. I'll give c5 a try though, unless anyone can suggest some simple solution for a portfolio website?

Honestly c5 is so easy to get up and running with. The new version will allow users to split up page areas into different sizes of blocks and add content according. Currently you will need to add editable areas and themes yourself. Some good default themes will be enough to get you started.

You used to be able to try out an online demo of c5 for a month. Not sure if it still is available.
