Hi guys,

I'm after a little advice. I work for an IT company and have done for over 3 years. For 2 and a bit years I worked in Change Management, but decided I did not want to progress down the business route and wanted to go technical. I took an internal move into Testing, in amidst a compulsory redundancy program that was going on and have now been there for a good 4 months where I've learnt a lot and gained my ISEB qualification in Software Testing.

In light of doing well and passing the ISEB exam I am now being told I am moving back into Change Management. This is due, I'm told to me being assessed during the CR period in the CM pool and not the Technical pool so I belong to CM and they want me back as I have experience in that area.

I've made it clear and stated I do not wish to return to that area, but it seems I don't have a choice. I have a meeting with the manager of the CM team I am supposed to be joining tomorrow where I will reiterate that this will not benefit me at all and I do not want to move.

I am contemplating, if I do have to move for atleast 6 months (but probably longer) what other employment opportunities may be out there for a qualified Software Tester.

Any guidance on the work issue and possible alternative employment would be appreciated.

Cheers.

I was initially recruited to the CM role after leaving Uni, 2 and a half years later I decided I did not like the business role and, with help from my CM team leader and her boss moved role and into Testing, which I thought was concrete and I was here to stay.

I'd like to think when I speak to the manager of the new team tomorrow and tell him that this was not my decision and I do not want to move back into CM he will not want to take someone on that doesn't want to be there.

We shall see I guess.
