Not strictly Home and Garden as these are for work but I'd rather post here than GD!

My steel toe work boots always seem to last me about 6 months before either falling apart, letting in water or developing rather annoying squeaks.

I normally spend about £50-60 on a pair from a local hardware type place.

I install CCTV systems for a living, so I guess my use is similar to that of a sparky's, clambering about sites and crawling through roof spaces as opposed to digging holes.

Anyone got any recommendations for boots? Or certain brands? My current ones are Dickies and they squeeked from about three weeks in!

Looks wise, I'm not too fused I suppose, though I like them to look smart and really like the look of my current ones. - http://www.brixworkwear.co.uk/dicki...ots-red.html?gclid=CKaVpcShqb4CFUXnwgod454AmA

Thanks for any advice.

Hi
I use dewalt boots from screwfix,
Never had a problem with them and they last me about a year depending on what i am doing.
They are about £60 but screwfix have an offer at the minute.

The only boots I've ever found that manage a combination of reasonably priced, last a good amount of time and are reasonably comfortable are amblers steel - I've been through a lot of brands over the years and so far while not exhaustively tested every brand most of the best known cheaper ones just don't manage to do as well in all 3 areas (most just fall apart after 2-6 months) and the only other ones I've found to perform as well are >£200.

EDIT: Second after that I've found are the dewalts from screwfix (from my experience they last a little longer than the amblers but aren't quite as comfortable).

I had a pair of amblers a few years back. Most uncomfortable shoes I have ever owned. I had blisters that covered my entire heel within a week. They went in the bin.

Shoes or boots? their shoes I don't like at all the backs seem to be designed purely to chafe but I've used and using several different versions of their boots and find them comfortable.

End of the day though everyones going to be a bit different in regards to what they find comfortable.

I've worn Hoggs of Fife rigger boots for a decade now. Would not buy anything else.

Decent price, decent looks, decent protection, comfortable etc etc etc.

I got a pair of the ones that have a steel plate on the sole, and when my steel-plateless ones give up the ghost I will only buy the steel plate ones. There are also waterproof.

(omg writing coherently is difficult today)

But wait: do you want shoes? :P

Cat! They're quite expensive but they last for ages! So comfortable too. I used to like dr martens but they hurt like hell at first and only last around 6 months :( definitely recommend cat though.

Got a set of Meindl military spec boots I used for a good while working around an engineering shop, fantastic boots - saved my arse (or more accurately feet) on a couple of occassions. If you know a bloke who works in military stores see if he can get you a pair on the sly because they're about £250 a pair :D

Got some dewalt trainers with the steelies, those are good - no ankle protection or support but they do everything else. I tend to use those if I'm doing any heavy work.
