Hi All.

My company has a single Acer PC / Windows 8 that we use for invoicing/billing. The person who used the computer and set it up is no longer working for us and I have been given the task of getting into the computer.

I have windows 7 at home but I never use a login. It appears that the person linked their Yahoo account?

Name....
[email protected]

This makes me think that I would need their Yahoo password to get in? I would also assume that since there are no other users set up that this account would be an admin?

The real issue is getting into the computer to access our QuickBooks and accounting information.

I would like to somehow access the computer...can this be done in safe mode? If so once I am in can I change or remove a user so that anyone can login?

Please let me know of any ideas you may have in order for me to resolve my annoying situation!

Much Appreciated!

I presume the sethc.exe trick still works under Windows 8? With this you can either re-enable the default admin account and take control of the other account from there or possibly reset the user's password (I'm not sure how it works if the user has linked an e-mail account [I thought it could only be done with a microsoft e-mail]).

-Take the drive out and put slave it in another PC, assuming its not encrypted, might need to take ownership of the files you need.

-Ask ex employee for password, unless they left on bad terms

-Boot off WinPE or Linux distro USB and copy needed files and wipe PC and start again.

Use a Windows 8 bootable disc/usb to enable the hidden admin account via regedit then just reset the password to a local password for that account.
