Appologies for the generic 'help me' post but the world of laptops seems a bit of a confusing one to me and thought there might be a couple of people here who will be able to make it less confusing !

I'll be changing job within the same company in the new year which will need me to travel more, mostly to the far east and I will need a laptop in order to keep upto date with work while I am away. So I'm really looking for something that is light, screen 13"-14" (I think but not sure) with solid battery life (doesn't need to be amazing, most work should be done next to a power socket, but not all).

Most tasks will be done with a windows ERP system (with 5-10 windows open at the same time) and with decent sized spreadsheets so I'm looking for something with decent performance although nothing too crazy. Also some remote desktop work which is slow at the best of times so slow laptop wouldn't help.

As far as price goes I was aiming for less than £1000 but all suggestions are welcome. I've been looking around at reviews and the dell xps m1330 seems great but I'm not sure if the fact that its for gaming too makes it less desireable for mainly work pc. Also I've tried looking into the so called 'ultra-portable' laptops but not really had much luck in gauging which one(s) stand out from the crowd.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

I believe the DELL d630 with its 3 year warranty is favored by a lot of businesses, many a salesman, designer, consultant has been seen with a D630 in a quality leather case. A quality notebook and I am looking for one next year. Just missed out on a used one for £325 inc 1070days transferable warranty today.

I've had a bit of a budget increase and change of though slightly. Can go upto £1500 now and after looking abit more, would prefer 12-13" screen and weight under 2kg.

I've seen the Fujitsu-Siemens Lifebook S6410 which fits this criteria pretty well, are there any other obvious choices I should have a look at?
