Ok guys so I am still there
I'm reaping the benefits of being employed & being payed, 40 inch HD TV, New washing machine & my SAAB is proof of that, This is mainly down to initial tax breaks where until I have earnt 5k I don't pay any, I think next month puts me over that so the month after will be normal tax & flat wage

The job goes well & I do a shift without it killing me, It is very physical work & doing it between the hours of 11pm & 8am really knocks you about. For me not only did I have to get used to working again but also had to get used to nights, To say it has been tuff is a massive understatement but I've done it.

Monday night my Manager came up to me & told me he had been looking at how best to use the staff he had & asked if I would fancy a go on Produce. I said If it gives me a better chance of being kept on I'll do owt. So from Friday I will be on Produce.
This is my new challenge & an even bigger one than the last 8 weeks. Produce is the worst job in the store, No doubt about it, I will be on my own doing all the Fruit & veg which comes in those big green plaggy trays. Anything up to 150 of those trays a night full of Apples/Oranges/Cabbages/Lettuces & the like that weigh a ton.
The way I see it is that My manager is thinking about me & this is the Final test on whether there is a Permanent place for me in his team. If I can physically do this job & do it well then I will triple my chances of being kept on.
This is it guys & gals, If this don't kill me then I really do think I have a damn good chance of being kept on

These next few days off I am preparing my head for a full on assualt style attack on Produce, I'm going to get myself proper revved up & blank out any negative vibes/thoughts.
I'll sort my diet out to suit & treat this as a Training regime

Wish me Luck as I will need it :)

Bah, wuss :p I worked on a produce section (For Tescos) a few years back and it's hard labour but it's fairly easy work.

Well done for soldiering on though!

dont forget to rotate the stock !

your manager will be looking for that.

but all in all produce is quite easy.

done it for 2 year's myself.

IMHO oppinion without offending you, how old are you? Perhaps with half the amount of posts on these forums you could be doing a bit of training on the side for a more long term job with some exciting challenges. I dont mean in any way to be talking down your job but it doesnt seem like it's worth getting up through the night or making out big "challenges"...

some people are happy with a regular job yet many people seem to feel as though they are selling themselfs short if they dont goto college etc and hopefully one day get a better job.

sometimes i get the impression doing these sorts of jobs is almost frowned upon amongst many ocuk folk

Good to hear of someone so keen to get back into work. It makes a refreshing change from the attitude of the perennial layabouts I often hear about. Good luck to you.

As i said in my post i do not mean to appear to be talking down to people. I am just saying that i dont think thats its really a "challenge", and that if somebody wanted to put effort into training they can get much more rewarding jobs, regardless of their abilities (almost).

I used to work on Milk and Juice in M&S when I was about 16/17. I worked there with a friend so as you can imagine we had some good laughs :)

And also this is why i said how old, as if you are young and this is a job on the side while you study etc then good for you for working while you learn, just remember which is "reaping the benefits" the most. Being able to have a 40inch HD TV now, or living the rest of your life with a rewarding job that will probably pay better and make you much happier in the long run.

and if there mid to late 20's then sucks to be you get a better job?

Same, but with Lidls, worked on all fronts really, shifting massive crates of stuff from 6am - 2pm, it's tiring stuff, but not too bad, keeps you fit. :D

Then you should be encouraged to try and better yourself and not be praised for what is 90% of the time laziness. I do not believe that anybody who is working full time working nights stacking shelves is really trying as hard as they can be, or are really looking at the long term benefits in trying to better themselves with a more rewarding job

maybe they like the hours they work , have a comfortable enough life with the wages they recieve and dont feel the need to "better" themselves because they dont see anything wrong with how they are.

some people can be more than satisfied with a little while others are always striving to have more and never achieve what they want.

Agreed, the OP clearly has a good work ethic and could be putting some serious work into a career that is more long term and rewarding.

Good luck though

As above again i am not only refering to pay, im referring to rewarding jobs, and jobs that you could actually enjoy. But anyway enough input for me on this thread :)

OP: Just make sure you put effort in early on in life its when it matters most.

Peace out!!!!

Good luck with it mate, it's the department I currently work on night shift as well. I'm sure you'll cope just fine though, first week will be tough but just remeber to bend your knee's while picking stuff up and you'll be fine.

you speak as though its not possible for someone to enjoy this type of work or any other similiar work.
