Hi Guys,

I am having some issues setting up VPN within my work office. In our previous office the VPN worked correctly, with the same hardware. Since we've moved office, we now have a new Static IP address range.

So how I've got it now (how it used to be in our old office):

ADSL Line > Netgear Modem (IP: XX.XXX.XXX.29) > Netgear FVG318 Firewall VPN (IP: XX.XXX.XXX.30).

I have setup the security polcies how they were before, but it doesn't seem to work (obviously I changed the gateway IP).

I think it could be because the .29 address is the only external address. How would I make the .30 address available externally? Sorry for my vagueness. If you need any more information, please let me know.

Thanks,

Jake

That's not right - If you got a /30 then you'd get 4 IPs (2 usable), a /29 is 8 IPs (6 usable).

Anyways, .29-31 is only 3 IPs and a network range is unlikely to start at .29.

It was advised by my boss to do it this way.

The Modem gets allocated the Static IP ending in 29. I've enabled the DHCP server on it to allow the range between 29 and 30 (so the firewall gets allocated with 30).

To correct the above, it's from XX.XXX.XXX.28 - 31.

A modem with a DHCP server?

set the vpn device up wth a static IP - set gateway as .29 on that one. Tes you can access the internet from the VPN device - ping something or resolve some dns from the Internet.

OK so unless your provider has routed you small IP range to .29 it will not see the .30 address behind the .29 device. You may have to set up something that advertises and listens for .30 on the modem device which forwards onto the vpn device

Thanks for the replies :)

I managed to get it to work.

I just had to set up a port forward from .29 to .30! Some so simple.. and I overlooked it!
