I know a dead cpu in a working motherboard may well (and in my case, did) kill the motherboard, but is the same true in the other direction? Don't want to lose more hardware!
(couldn't decide between cpu and motherboard forums, so went for general )
Likely not, but depending on what exactly caused mobo death it might do, especially if its something in the voiltage/regulation area. would'nt risk it if i knew the board was dead.
Took a chance and well, the mobo wasnt dead, so my working cpu still works. But, er, now instead I have a dead socket 1800+ that will be difficult to replace
