Hi

Did anyone else not notice the government changed the rules after Covid?

Spooky enough we was just taking about tax codes and what allowances that we was claiming for in the office yesterday, then fb shows me the government advert for it.

The major change is that if the company has an office that you can get to, but you choice to work from home, you can no longer claim tax allowance on it.

I think I’m still eligible as I’m only contracted to work in the office 2 days a week, and I choose sometimes not to go.

They also changed the eligibility for uniform allowance and a load of other stuff, worth checking out if your claiming any sort of allowance.

I seem to remember that you were only entitled to the allowance if you were forced to work from home (even for a single day), so during lockdown lots were entitled. If, however, working from home was your choice and not mandated you were not eligible.

it's kinda wierd for me, during lock down I was 100% at home then moved companies where it was normal to work a few days at home anyway even before lockdown.
now we are asked to come to the office 3 days in two weeks on set rota days.

We physically can't all be in the office at the same time as the company closed down two sites and moved the staff to what we call "the other building", where they have to bring their own coffee mugs to get a coffee from the cafe (how ghetto... lol).. while the other staff that was orginally part of the site is now rota in two/three days a week in the "nice" building.

I see what the tax man says about it, but tbh, it's cheaper to work in the office for me as it's only two junctions down the motorway, fuel vs cost of working from home is pretty much the same if not more costly to work from home.

Yes, I'm fairly sure this was always the case?

Either way, I'll be staying permanently WFH for as long as possible, worked out it would be the equivalent to a ~£7k pay cut in childcare and motoring costs if I had to go back to the office full time; the £120 or whatever a year in tax savings is a drop in the ocean compared to that
