Hi to those working from home. What comfy desk have you been able to find?. I have a gaming chair and just need a desk. Would be happy with a desk where I can rest my arms on it and nothing too big, due to limited space. The cherry on the cake would be folding desk, but I know I'm pushing it. Let me know what you think..

Most desks won't be big enough to rest your arms on if you have a "gaming chair" standard depth is normal around 600mm, once you get a keyboard and monitor on there you've taken up a good chunk of space.

I have gone the route that most have and bought a kitchen worktop from IKEA, cut it down to the size of your work area then put 2 sets of draws under it, works great, if your really limited for space you can swap out the draws for table legs.

Thanks. Have you got a link of the one you bought please?

I've got one of those old fashioned legal desks, up on bricks as I'm over six foot and I needed to raise the desk height. Plenty of space for Keyboard, mouse and cup of tea.

I have my monitor and speakers on a small table behind it.

I do have the luxury of a decent size room.

Yes most of the comfy ones, do need a lot of space. I might not have an option but just to get one of these.

That's the work top

And there the drawers.

It's all self assembly, there's different styles of worktops too, and colours of drawers to suit your room.
Ikea also sell some decent cable management racks too for under the work surface to help keep it tidy.

This looks interesting. I'll go and have a look. Many thanks.

If you don't mind second hand then your local office chair and desk reseller might be worth a look. Also, small dining room tables can work and be cheap, plus sometimes folding.

I just sit on sofa with laptop on my knees. But there are laptop lap desks you can buy for about £25 from the rain forest.

Yep, this is route I went when I started WFH 10 years ago. Added bonus that when it starts to look a little tired, just sand and re-oil it to look good as new.

Hmm just looking at the cost of the worktop as provided by @R3dRaven. The cost would be around £300 when you get the worktop and drawers. Would it not be cheaper to just get a full desk? Unless of course the drawers are essential to working from home, I'm not sure what would be the real insentive of taking this route?. Is it because the combination of the worktop and drawers provides a more stable work area? Do you need to do anything else other than just putting the worktop on top of the drawers? Do you need to drill the worktop on or it just sits solid on top? Also thinking, the combination of the worktop and drawers could also be useful as I could just remove the worktop when I don't need to use it?

Honestly it is an expensive route to take, but you have a desk / work surface for life.

Most desk are made of cheap materials and just don't hold up. The drawers are just for storage, and if your working from home good luck finding a decently made desk with good storage solutions.

Yes you can mount the desk on the drawers but I found it to be to low down and my chair didn't fit under it unless I dropped it down and it wasn't comfortable. I bought some stand offs on amazon for about £15 and put 4 on each set of drawers lifting the worktop about 6".

I'll try and get some pics of my desk so you can look at the final setup.

Thanks. Pics would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

I have an ancient solid wood desk that came from the civil service. Marvellous thing but I'd get a sit/stand desk if I was doing it again.

Oh, and office chairs >> gaming chairs. Made the mistake of buying a Secretlab Titan and it's such a downgrade from an equivalently priced office chair.

Hope that works
That looks solid many thanks. So the work top is attached to the drawers? Unfortunately I'm not that practical when it comes to DIY. Do I need to mount them or can just use and remove the worktop when not needed or it won't be that stable? Also if mounting the worktop, what do I need for this?

You're right. Most of the gaming chairs are not as comfortable. I recently bought an autofull gaming chair, fingers crossed it will be comfy.

The worktop is heavy enough once you have your tower, monitors etc. On it, that it doesn't need to be screwed or secured down, with enough force it will move, but it's not a worry for me as its pushed up to a wall, if your desk wasn't next to a wall you may need / want some sort of fixing just to be safe.

Only thing fully mounted down are the 4 stand offs on top of the set of draws, I think there screwed in with 4x25mm wood screws.

4 Pcs Adjustable Legs, Stainless Steel Furniture Feet, Table Desk Cabinet Kitchen Adjustable Feet Round with Screws(Adjustable Height 0-10mm) https://amzn.eu/d/7gtRYcM

These are the stand offs, there's a few different sizes if you want more height from the drawers.

Thanks very much. I'll go into IKEA and have a look at these. Very helpful indeed.
