Hi All,
I am looking at hosting my server in co-location but they asked me for the amps of my server for a quote... Wha? I have a server and its PSU is as follows - Standard 600W power supply; Auto-switching universal 90-264V. So what will the amps be to tell the company, thanks, Jag

Seems odd they'd ask how many amps and not how many watts.

A 600W can provide 5W to 600W and your server will be somewhere in that window. Where? Well that depends on what stuff is inside it and what it is being used for. Intensive tasks burn comparitively more electricity

Use a wall socket thing to find the draw but really a 600w PSU is able to work at 600w on continuous power (if it is a decent one) and itl pull more from the wall depending on efficiency, which depends on the load.

Rather than listing parts, working out individual loads and roughly where the efficiency might be at, buy a plug in tester. They are cheap and will end up saving you money if you become active in its uses!

If its a branded server like a Poweredge or a Proliant it should actually say on it what the max ampage is, but for a quick work out, assuming the PSU is 80% efficient, if its supplying its full 600w (which it should never be) it will be drawing from the wall 750w, at 230v that's 3.26A.
