working with Alias, FireGL V3400 or 3870XT ?

i was reading a tread on tis forum, where someone flashed their 2900xt to a FireGL 8xxx or something, which is worth £900!! i have no idea what the tread was called though. sorry.

Flashing the cards just change the card ID in the bios so the programs that you use will recognise the card. They often do not have the functionality of a dedicated workstation card.. And you will also find if you have a problem with your software that is graphical related and call support and tell them you have a 3870XT they will not support your product unless its a workstation spec graphics card such as a FireGL or Quadro.

I'm sure you can mod them into Fire GL's though, I seen a benchy of old 9600 cards modded into Fire GL's and they shown extra performance in workstation apps.

Nope.. For instance in Solidworks you can flash a ATI or a Nvidia desktop card to mimic the workstation equavelent. In the program a lot of the features (Realview being one) do not work. There is a reason why a Geforce 8800GTS is about £250 and a QuadroFX is about £1150...
