A friend of mine is a contractor for a large firm in the UK doing stock predications, much of her work is on large spreadsheets and databases.

She has a contract offer to work for another firm whilst also continuing to work for her current firm. Part of her contract requires 'no possible data contamination with other clients'. Instead of building/purchasing a new PC to work for her new client, I suggested going down the route of getting a new workstation (Say quad core Phenom, 8GB RAM e.t.c) and running a Virtual PC instance for each of her clients.

Would this be a viable solution?

Seems like a reasonable solution, though, just as with the seperate machine setup it's more about the user (your friend) understanding what not to do and how to limit the possibilities of "data contamination"
