For those of you with workstation cards in your machine, I have a question - Do these cards have a lower failure rate than say a consumer gaming card? I have an opportunity to install a Quadro FX 1700 in my home machine for work purposes and wondered if these are more reliable or something. Most of my work will be video playback and effects programming, including WPF.

It isnt immediately clear to me what the benefits are, although I like the low power consumption of the card - only 42Watts!

Thanks

It is more powerful for the applications you use (apparently). Home use GFX cards are meant for prettyness. Workstation cards are meant for raw POWAH. Or something like that. Its tired and im off to bed.

Apparently. So I have heard. Thats why the have the huge price tags.

Normal graphics cards are designed for vector graphics which games use, workstation cards are designed for ray tracing which cad programs use, allowing them to be used to speed up rendering times.
