I was listening to talksport and they bought up an interesting point, they said the term world class is used way too lightly these days and i must say i agree with it.

Apocalypse bought up a good point

The combination of pretty boy, playing for man u, clever marketing and marrying a spice girl have made him a star.

Without the above he would just be another above average premiership footballer.

i say i gotta agree with that, im not bashing man utd and ill admit ruud and veron are world class but i do think people are branded world class to easily these days

world class is figo, raul and zidane not players like beckham :/

I totally agree with you, but then he's meant to be one of the best players in England today, who is better than him?

Ray Parlour ;)

Zidane is another on another planet, he is world world class lol, its not fair to compare him to others coz he is something else, the man is gonna be recognized as one of the all time greats. He has had some poor games but they are usually against the weaker teams, what makes him great is when he plays against the bigger teams the man raises his games to insane levels, he was the man that was totally destroying man utd and he did the same against valencia. £47mill well spent if ya ask me, he always performs in the big games, european finals, world cup finals, big domestic games. He is amazing

Figo is world class, if u saw him before he left for real at barca he was amazing, when rivaldo was named world player of the year rivaldo said that figo would have got the award if he was brazillian, only this season he is finding that form again and against man utd he showed why he is head and shoulders above beckham

Raul is so good at disrupting defense's, ask fergie how good he is, he always messes up the shape of the defense and makes super runs, even when ronaldo game he has kinda changed his game to help ronaldo which is a class thing, usually he was a long striker now he does come a lot more deep from what i seen before, he might of done it before but back then there was no spanish footy on tv =/ 43 champions league goals is no laughing matter, that is amazing and look at the teams he has scored against the only teams not on that list are probably the teams real havent faced lol. His left foot aint that bad either heh ;)

Personally I wouldn't rate Pires as world class, Overmars and Giggs are both better in his position IMO. Henry, Vieira and probably Bergkamp I would rate up there though.

i wouldnt say overmas is better than pires at all, last season pires was brilliant and in the past pires has been superb for france. Giggs on his day is good as well. But pires isnt a proper left winger he usually cuts in a lot

Bergkamp WAS world class, i like him a lot as well but he isnt the the player he was :( Not as consistant as he was but he does get a lot of injuries these days.

cudicni and friedal are better than barthez, dudek was superb last season and dodgy this season, barthez was dodgy this season and this season has been decent. If u saw David Jame's performance at highbury that is as good goalkeeping performance ive seen in a while it doesnt make him world class though. dunno if i can class cudicini or friedal world class coz they have only had 1 good season.

Out of zidane and cantonna, that has to be the easiest question ever, zidane is much better than him. And i mean much better, zidane has toyed with the best defenses in europe, cantona only did well in the english league. He didnt do much for france either but wasnt really given a proper chance. I wouldnt put him in the same league as zidane, thats how highly i rate him.

Zidane has been the No.1 player in the world since at least World cup 1998. By the end of his career we may talk of him in the same breath as the maradonas, cryuffs, peles etc. Thats how good he is IMHO. He always performs against the big teams and he always performs in the big matches, in the man utd match 90% of his passes were on target and only in the 41st min he made a bad pass. I believe man utd tackled him twice in the whole match  If u saw his performance against valencia it was even better.

I would say campbell is very very nearly world class, he can sometimes make mistakes but who cant. I'd also say he is better than rio, rio had a good world cup and sol an average one and it was made out that rio was much better, which he simply isnt. campbell for arsenal at times has been a rock. Rio was very over-rated in the world cup and in the brazil match he looked very dodgy against top class strikers. I would never say he is world class, a couple good games dont make u world class.

Scholes world class  he is a good player but no way world class. Also veron is world class but like rotty said only sometimes.

I still dont understand how u regard scholes world class, good but no way world class, juve want ljundberg so shall we call him world class as well?

As for a list of world class players:

Zidane - Do i even need to add a comment, best player in the world
Raul - Most consistant striker in europe for a while now
Figo - best right winger, has skill, strength, great dribbling, good shot, good vision, good delivery etc etc :p
Ronaldo - not the player he was but is still class and will get better
Ballack - main reason leverkusen nearly won 3 trophies and germany getting to WC final
Kahn - has a presense in goal
Recoba - not seen much of tbh but everyone seems to say he is great ;)
Nesta - great defender
Shevchenko - apart of one of the most lethal partnerships in CL history, v.good player
Del Piero - great at setting others up and has good skill, scores a lot as well
Carlos - is up and down the pitch non stop, has a good left foot
Veron - on his day his passing can be breathtaking, hasnt had many good days at utd though
RvN - dont like him but is a good player, his record speaks for itself
Henry - scores a lot and makes soo many chances, is abit slow though ;)
Vieira - has been called the most complete midfielder in the world, has a presence in midfield
Pires - great vision and has good dribbling skills
Rustu - great goalkeeper, dodgy at crosses but the best shot stopper in the world on his day
Thuram - a real powerhouse and is very strong on the ball, good defender and good at attacking which is rare in full backs these days, they usually are good at one not both
campbell - a real rock in defense, has pace and tackles hard and accurately
