So its four years away, and the current players are four years older and less sharp if that's possible so how could we line up for the first game in 2018.

My picks below:
Wellbeck needs to take over from Rooney at club level otherwise he wont make it. Jones and Smalling seem to be the only young centre backs that are English playing at a high level currently available to replace Cahill and 32 and 35 by the next world cup. The other alternative is John Stones from Everton.

I am struggling to be inspired by the crop of players we have and that could pick from in 2018 unless a crop of 17/18 years olds are coming around now at club level that a lot of us don't know about.

My point was more who are the up and coming players they are not getting a look in in teams, who are the new CB that England could use where are the likes of the players we had in 1990 - Lineker, Beardsley, Waddle, Butcher, Pearce even a Gascoigne, we dont seem to have the English players moving into first team action.

You say we may have talent in four years but those players need to get called up in the next two years otherwise they wont be going, have a look at the under 21 England team to get an idea of who may be the new players they are at Chelsea and Man Utd, those teams have not exactly been great in the past five years of bringing players up into the 1st teams!

I will come back in 2018 and see how many I got right ;)
