I'm not sure what to make of this.
On the one hand, I've sometimes felt that four years is a long time to wait. It basically means if a player gets injured they can be waiting 8 years (half a career) between World Cups. As a kid, when you are perhaps the most interested/passionate about football (because once you are an adult there are many more responsibilities and indeed distractions), 4 years feels like an ABSOLUTE AGE. I basically went though the whole of secondary school without getting a proper world cup experience where you are chatting with your mates about it all the time, as England didn't qualify for '94, and '98 we'd just broken up to sit A-levels.
On the other hand, when you factor in qualifiers you'd basically be playing constant WC games. It wouldn't feel as special. Furthermore, the WC is arguably a lower standard than the Euros (due to naff teams from other continents qualfiying due to having an easier route) and we need a place for that.
I think I'd leave it as it is.
