World of Warcraft bad lag

in any outland city I'm lucky if i get over 40fps. all the settings are maxed out (1280x1024 res) but that shouldn't be a problem for my PC, any ideas why this is happening, I've tried the hot fixes and the driver I'm currently using is 169.25

Pre or post 2.3.2?

My computer is kinda the same, are you using vista?

Try opening windows media player and not playing anything just leave it open and start wow, that's been reported to help boost fps.

Have you defragged etc?

Try turning down multi sampling, even with my computer WoW lags with high multi sampling.

Also try turning off full screen glow effect.

I have been getting a lot of lag in WoW recently. Not frame rate lag, just internet lag. Really annoying when your against something 2-3 levels above you.

Patch day is normally laggy as hell.

its always been like that for me in outland for somreason, I've also noticed its not just warcraft, its games like company of heroes aswell

I've noticed both a reduction in FPS since 2.3 (now dropping to sub-30fps in big firefights, previously never left the 60fps limiter) and also an increase in latency.

Quite a few of my guildies are suffering from random disconnects since 2.3 aswell.

2.3.2 features a change to the TCP algorithms used to attempt to reduce lag. Though when I was on briefly tonight lag seemed worse.
