Hi folks, just obtained a copy of WoW (yes I know I've come to the game rather late  lol)

Can anyone recommend a list of add-ons that are really useful for the game (that change the interface etc etc) so I don't have to plough through loads and loads of crappy mods that I then have to uninstall and start again before actually finding some decent ones??

Any advice appreciated from the WoW forum gods

Must have mods for any class:
QuickLoot - Absolutely essential piece of kit moves the next loot item directly under where the mouse is located, saves a lot of time.
Auctioneer - Logs ah prices to help you find the best deals and also to help give you an idea of what prices to sell stuff at.
Autobag - Automatically sorts specific items into a specific bag when picked up.
AutoDecline - Automatically declines those annoying duel requests from people who think they are hard.
Cast Time - Displays a bar showing the progress of a cast action, which also apply to a variety of generic actions.
Characters viewer - Allows you to view your alts equipment when logged in as another alt. Good for deciding whether you need to send them a certain item.
MailTo - Keeps an address book of people you contact via mail.
CT_MailMod - Allows you to send a char multiple items via 1 page.
Defend yourself - Turns on the auto attack if you are attacked, good if you are not paying attention.
Enhanced flight map - Keeps track of the costs of flight paths and the time it takes to travel them.
Gatherer - Keeps track of mining spots as you find them, very useful.
Frenns Kill Log - Keeps a log of the beasts you kill and the average xp you get from a certain beast.
Monkey Quest - Creates a side window on your screen that shows what quests you got, saves you keep having to open the built in quest window.
Titan panel - Good multi-purpose panel for displaying information, supports plug-ins also
BMRecommendedLevel - Displays a list of areas that it recommends you should be in at your current level.
Bags Status Meters - Keep track of how much space is left in your bags.
Atlas - For the dungeon junkie, displays a map of any dungeon in the game so you never get lost.

Hunter:
AntiDaze - Auto turns off aspect of cheetah/pack when attacked to prevent multiple dazing.
PetFeeder - Automatically feeds your pet when it needs it, also keeps track of foods in your backpacks and sorts them either by quality or quantity.

I only mainly play my hunter so im not sure about other classes :)

Addons are said to make your game slower.

QuickLoot - Pointless, just use shift + click on the loot.
Auctioneer - Pointless again, don't buy anything off the AH apart from enchant materials etc as you need money for mount then epic mount. And just search for the item you want to sell and put it cheaper than the rest.
Defend yourself - Found this to be annoying, breaking traps, stuns etc when the game lags.
Frenns Kill Log - Keeps a log of every mob(monster) you kill? That would take a lot of resources in my eyes. Un-needed.

There are a few thoughts of some of the mods said then. Really keep your addons folder clean and so you know what is what, why you ask? Because when an update comes out you will know exactly what and where to go! I learnt this the hard way :p

Just get mods you need. Such as a warrior can only use Overpower when you parry, I think. So you simply use a mod website and find a mod that tells you when overpower is available.

I got a hell of a lot now really and i think its ct raid thats slowing me down a little. Get latest cosmos that has nearly everythin you need in 1 package.
Ive also got and now "need" to play right :p

Cosmos
Mobinfo2 (inc mobhealth)
Auctioneer
xptogo (not needed but used to it now)
Druidbar
ct raid assist
maybe a few others

About the causes lag etc if you have a good pc which im assuming someone in here does it hardly makes any difference on WoW, few higher fps mean nothing compared to added functionality :)

I don't see the point of having so many mods that you don't do anything yourself and can barely recognise the game screen. Cosmos was far too intrusive for me, and just generally annoying.
CT_mod gives self-cast, and health/mana amounts for your party, and co-ordinates on map, which can be useful.
I have some friends who used UUI, but I don't know what it has at all.
www.wowguru.com has a list of the most popular ones and what they do. To be honest, you are best looking at that and picking the functions you will want. As has been said, stick with as few mods as possible. I know someone who had so many mods he couldn't play for the wednesday after a patch because he had to find all the updates and get them to work together.

While i disagree with comments Sinque's comments about my suggestions i find all mine very usefull to me, especially quickloot mainly cause I only like to loot certain things not everything. I do agree with bracco, cosmos is stupidly bloated and full of crap that you dont need its best to pick out the ones that you are going to use from the mod sites.

Its generally concidered by those in the fps comunity as a "newb" game anyway and although im playing it everyday atm lets be honest it is. Making the game more enjoyable with some stuck on tat is well worth it imo :)

a few mods which I find usefull:

CT_Raid
CT_RaidAssist
CT_QuestLevels
CT_MapMod
CombatStats(CT Version which can be moved)
VisibleFlightMap
BuffTimers
Titan
AutoBar
aftt_extreme(mouseover tooltip show under mouse pointer, remove the framexml part to stop errors)

I have a few other warlock specific mods also and a different playerframe mod but the main ones are shown above.

I've tried a few mods. The ones I now use are the following.

Map Coords - This comes in so handy for tracking a location
Atlas - This is instance maps

Gatherer proved pretty worthless on collection herbs due to the random location's where they spawn. Not sure how this works for mining/chests

These are all that i use at the moment:

Atlas - Maps of all instances
Bag_Status_Meters - shows current levels of bags
BankItems - View your bank from aynwhere
ChatScroll - Use mousewheel to scroll chat and combat
Clock - in game clock with stats on rollover
CritLine - Keeps records of highest hits / crits
CT_RaidAssist - raid assist mod, very handy in 15 man+ raids
Decursive - quick way to remove debuffs
EquipCompare - shows your relevant equipped item next to any item you view
FriendsShare - share friends across all chars
Gatherer - gathering / mining historical data and search engine
goodinspect - inspect people from a lot further away
QuestLevels - shows the level of the quest
ReagentData - adds info to tooltip about what items is used for
ReagentInfo - as above
RedRange - greys out all hotbar buttons when out of ranges instead of just main bar
ScenRaid - guild dkp system
sct - scrolling combat text, combat information above your head
SeeAllDebuffs - see all debuffs on group window
WOWEcon_PriceMod - shows server specific price history and disenchant info on your tooltip
Wr - WoW reader, used to make allakhazam profile
ZoneLevel - shows zone level on mini map

Personally I just use the following, nothing else needed...

CT_RaidAssist
Gatherer
Auctioneer (apart from telling you current AH prices it also tells you vendor prices)
TitanBar
Titan CritLine
Scrolling Combat Text (tells you when you get things like Overpower!)

On my Paladin however I do use two others...

Decursive (for removing Poisons and Magic)
Buff'A'Hoy (need I explain this one?)

That's it....everything else is in the default UI.
