Many people have no desire for anything other than a moderately fast laptop -- in fact, these people are certainly the majority by a huge margin. They would rather have reasonable performance and improved battery life, preferably in a package that doesn't weigh as much as a small car. On the other hand, there are users out there who want as much performance as possible in a mobile workstation. If you happen to be a member of the latter group, various companies are about to launch a substantially faster mobile behemoth.

The first we heard of this new laptop is courtesy of Eurocom, who will begin shipping their new Phantom-i7 sometime in April. We snagged images off their website, which you can see in the following gallery.

They might as well get rid of the battery and save on some weight, a 1 hour battery isn't going to get you very far.

Both in usage time, and attempting to carry it in anything other than a car. Your back would fall off if you attempted to walk around for any amount of time with this on your back. :p

Not really a laptop is it, put that thing on your knees when its running and youll be burnt to a crisp in seconds - what a pointless machine!

I think I saw this a while back, at the time it was announced with C2Q processors.

Possibly aimed at professionals who absolutely must have workstation power and at least some portability, architects etc..

The cost must be absolutely frightening though...

It's a server or workstation-caliber computer complete with built-in Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) in a 12pounds notebook form factor," said Mark Bialic, President of Eurocom. "This is one extremely fast notebook that offers server or workstation caliber capabilities. It is designed to replace traditional desktop based workstations. It offers incredible high ROI by allowing companies to be more productive and offer new "on the go" CAD/CAM services while greatly reducing overall IT management costs".

These are perfect for people who need very high performance machines while still maintaining an element of portability. The alternatives are remote login to good machines or something like a shuttle, which is bulkier, not able to cram as much in and doesnt have a built in keyboard/screen.

Great for giving lectures involving high performance graphics, great for architects/CAD engineers doing field work. Not so great for the commuter on a train :)

What I find amazing is that it doesnt appear to be much larger than my Dell XPS M1730, which, although a bit older, only has 2 x 8800M GTX, 2 x HD, I find it amazing they have crammed in 2 GTX 280s and 3 HDs!. The Dell has a 1 hour battery life too, just good enough for small lectures and as has been said useful if the power goes out.

The gtx280m is a g92 chip the same as a 9800 gtx+...so in effect it's not GTX280s in there.

Still very good to get everything in there. Just answering an earlier post of saying "amazing with 2 gtx280s in there'

Nvidia naming scheme for you. :p

The fact that they can take that level of hardware and transform it into any kind of portable solution needs applauding in my opinion, its an outstanding achievement.

It's just another Clevo laptop with Eurocom claiming to be the worlds first to offer it. Usual rubbish from them. It'll be available everywhere at the same time with the same options.

I agree it's a bit of an ugly thing but I guess when you're using it for workstation things that comes a big second to performance.
