Thought I'd post this site I view every now and then:

I was just curious after hearing all these people talking about how many more sales the DS has than PSPs.

It is interesting to see the breakdown as of SEP 2006 PSP has sold more units than DS in America and PAL territories. It is only the huge amount sold in Japan that have made it more popular than PSP worldwide.

I am sure there is some other figures that people will find revealing in the thread (its not often you can find reliable information all in 1 place).

Edit: I know these are shipped figures as opposed to sold, but all the manufacturers publish data like this.

VGcharts have been wrong for ages. Microsoft announced a while ago that they had already sold 10 million units.

Microsoft stated they have shipped 10 million units, not sold them.
VG Charts actually use sales for figures, therefore they are more accurate in my opinion.

EDIT: Couldn't quite figure out why the PSP sales didn't match the figures on the 'next gen wars' section. One section is hardware shipments the other is actual sales, not confusing at all!

The DS is still whooping the PSP's ass with a big stick in terms of sales. The page you listed was shipped units not sold units.

It's because of this whooping that Sony are redesigning the PSP, they have to make it retail for cheaper so it can still compete.

I think the first link I gave was manufacturers shipped figures from sep 2006.

The link you gave is to more recent data. Obviously it has changed due to xmas and the 6 months-ish since sep 2006.

tbh I have never seen a site that lists sales figures for both handhelds to date. Any comparisons I have seen are only for shipped info. As these are the only figures that they provide, I just use that as an indicator.

I've always thought that the 2 devices are aimed at different markets tbh (kinda like Wii and PS3), and different price points.

The 'next gen wars page' that barnettgs linked to does list the actual unit sales for both handhelds.
This is why many people say that VGCharts are wrong as their figures are lower than other sites because they base it on sales.
