Worried about CPU temps

Hi there,

I am currently using Core Temp to monitor all 4 cores of my QX6700 quad core CPU & the 1st 2 cores are reading 68, 65, 62 & 62 at idle.

Should I be worried?

If so what do you think I should do?

I have heard about the Tuniq 120 HSF from my last thread which I may invest in as I am currently using the Arctic Freezer Pro 7 HSF & also about lapping but could really do with more info on lapping.

I'm also of thinking of a water cooling option as my PC is in a naturally warm room.

What are your full load temps and fan speed of your AF7.
It might be a case of reseating the cooler and applying fresh paste, also what's your case cooling like.

Temps in my opionion do look slightly high for idle.

To be honest yes it is a bit high for idle

Have you checked that the AC7 is seated properly as I know what a pain those b****y pins are :D

Yes. It does seem very stable & solid.

When I fit it originally to replace the stock hsf I thoroughly cleaned off the original thermal paste with Akasa Tim clean then re-applied using AS5.

Water cooling wont make any difference if your room temp is high the water cooling is going to be warm as warm air is cooling the water.
But those temps at idle are high i would say. Mine for q6600 is 41-45 at idle which is still fairly high but i don't have great airflow.
A better quality hsf like the Tuniq would help keep temps lower, but ultimatly if your room is warm, air being pushed through is going to warm.

Ok guys thanks for the advice.

I will probably tidy up my case by hiding a few cables to help improve air flow & replace the hsf with the Tuniq to see what that does.

Any tips on hiding cables because that doesn't seem that easy.

Just hide all the cables, so there not floating around in the middle of the case, so there all around the sides, most cables are often hidden behind the motherboard tray and that is about it really.
Once you got them roughly where you want them just loosely cable tie them, for extra neatness.

 You can find almost every overclocked quad on the database running cooler than that after 8 hours prime stable and loads of volts running through it.

There is somethings serious wrong with the heatsink/thermal paste.

With an artic freezer pro at stock clocks I would be expecting to see 30-40 in a cool room and 40-50 in a hot room.

I can only imagine what temps it gets to on load.
