Hello, all. Any help would be greatly appreciated here as I'm in the middle of my build.

I am have dropped the CPU into the socket however the top of the bracket looks a bit bent and doesn't seem to want to close. I'm a bit worried about applying too much pressure and breaking my new 9650. Does the socket look right in the picture i.e. should it have that curve that I'm seeing? Will I possibly break the cpu by trying to close this?

Any help would be most welcome.

The board is a Gigabyte EP45 Extreme if that helps any.

Thanks.

I'm guessing that is not closed like that? I've just done a new biuld (on a rampage formula) I had to use a lot of preasure to close it. (thought it was going to snap)

But from what i remember it wasn't bent like that!

have you tried to close it like that?

**edit**

Sorry can see its still open now. worth trying a fair bit of force to get it to close.

Yeah that doesn't look right, remove the CPU and see how bent the bracket is by putting something straight against the top.

I removed the cpu and put something flat on it and there's definitely quite a bend to it. It bends upwards from the middle of the bracket to the end where the lever latches on. Even from trying to close it a few times it was making worrying creaking noises. I'll try putting a bit more pressure on it. I was just unsure as to whether it should close easily or if force was indeed required. I wasn't expecting it to look as bent as it was, coming straight from the box.

Did you buy the board new? You might be able to get it replaced, or you could always attempt to straighten the load plate yourself. I'd suggest removing it first, I'm pretty sure it shouldn't be that bent.

That does look bent, be very careful if you try to straighten it. Even when straight they require some force to close.

They are all bent, you should find it closed ok without the CPU

Check the CPU is sitting perfectly flat and the nodules are engaged with the cutouts.

That pic looks like the CPU isn't sat properly so it is too high at the centre point. The metal should bend straight to as the socket closed to apply the required force to make the connections.

Thanks a lot for all the help, people. Cheers for the pic decto! :D I managed to get it closed eventually and with a bit more force than I was comfortable with. I'll just keep my fingers crossed that it works when it comes time to turn it on.

Thanks again.

I've put together quite a few systems in the last few months and never noticed the top of the CPU bracket being bent like that. What mobo is it? and if it doesn't straighten up won't it catch on the bottom of the HSF resulting in poor temps?
