Just putting a build together around a ryzen 5800x and b550 mb.

I ordered the RM850x thinking I’d be adding a 3080 or 3080 ti so should be enough.

Anyway, went stupid and ordered a 3090ti (evga ftw black for what it’s worth).

Is the 850w gonna cut it?

I’ve used loads of online calculators and I get recommendations from 750 to 1000w! Crazy variations.

i know the 850 should be enough but I’ve also ordered a 1000w …l for the sake of an extra £35, thought it would cover me for the future too. I’m going to be running a few usb devices from it as well as a good few fans. I’ll keep looking, worst case, I have to send either the 850 or 1000 one back.

one thing I was worried about was the “spikes“ which systems can have and accounting for those too?

It's the main reason why you're recommended excessive PSUs nowadays, I think, despite the actual power usage of most systems being way less than what you're quoted. For the most part, decent modern PSUs can cope with the spikes, I can only remember the original Seasonic Focus (and other PSUs based on the same platform) having major issues. Nvidia was supposed to have designed different behaviour with Lovelace, I think (more stable/less spikey, GN tested it (12:23) and Igorslab.
