Just built a new rig i7 930 asus P6X58D-e motherboard with prolimatech megahalems cooler and 2x120mm fans push pull...yes they are in correct direction of airflow too.

idle temps are between 31 and 40 degress..problem is wen i do occt test or burn in test or any cpu test the temp goes immediatley, as in 1 second, up to 53 or so degrees then goes up to a max of 66-68 degrees over the space of 3-4 mins on all cores and stays there forever

cpu hasnt been overclocked at all except from asus turbo mode in ai suite takes it to 2.945 or something...i thought i may have poorly seated cooler or put too much paste on cpu but cooler itself is getting warm so paste is transmitting heat ok...

temps seem way too hot for me..i gotta be missing something, what have i done wrong??

using occt for monitoring temps and testing ,also everest and speedfan all report same temps, case is well ventilated however with front cover off it is sitting now at 60-63 degrees on all 4 cores

oh and after turning occt off it immediatly return to 40 degrees on all cores

Well the temps maybe arn't the best but they arn't as bad as your thinking.

I have the noctua DH-14 and just set up my i7 930 this week. At idle it was on 32-33* at stock speed. Cant remember exactly what it was under full load, but i think it was around 58 iirc.

And the temp will shoot up in 1 sec, thats normal.

The Noctua is rated one of the best air coolers and can drop up to 10* off other coolers from what ive read, so i would expect the prolimatech megahalems to be a few degrees higher.

Just see what happens when you overclock it. Then its all about heat at what voltage. My chip hasnt overclocked very well and is needing 1.325v on core for 4ghz and at room temp the cores sit around 73* at full load, though for that voltage people have said others can be well into the 80's

Whats your room temp like, and id suggest checking the seating of the cooler and the paste application. Those temps do seem high for a stock system at load, just checked mine as ive got it back at stock.

The megahelims is a pretty good cooler, (about 2-3c behind the noctua nhd14 in reviews).

well my room is enclosed no windows, its actually a utility room with washing machine but is ventilated through door and extractor fans, i have had a pc in there running an old core2duo for last 7 yrs never any problems, ill reseat cooler in a bit

ye but your on water im on air, so you should be cooler imo

I agree, but your cooler is one of the best and you are running stock

Something is wrong, you sure your bios has the correct volts set. My asus default volts were set too high and I had to manually drop them. This could explain the high temps.

Yes it's all about the volts. My default stock settings have vcore on auto and ramps it up to 1.2v when under load. This is higher than I need it to run at 3.6ghz (1.088v). My load temps at stock are higher than my custom volts 3.6ghz overclock.

According to occt my vcore on idle is 0.95 going to 1.27 at full load..i know naff all about voltages in cpus but am happy to play with bios nps..if any1 has any ideas on what it should be ill happily play in bios...meanwhile i do some searching..

what are repocussions of low/high volts i presume i cant blow the cpu up as it should just bsod first...right?

thanks for replies

1.27 is abit high for stock speeds, you could if you are feeling adventurous go into the bios and lower the vcore manually, along the way stress testing to make sure you don't go to low.

mine is exactly the same as urs, max volts at 3.8GHz are 1.245 and my temps are high. [i cant get to 4 cause of the temps]

i have the noctua nh u12p and am thinking something is wrong with the mounting/paste

Your temps are too high

I have mine at just over 4ghz and after a 20hr encoding marathon my temps are

59
58
59
60

That's with the CPU still running 100%

Thankyou for temp readouts but this isn't a thread about your temps. His temps aren't too high at all.

Your temps are fine.

And again, your temps are fine nothing to be worried about.

1.245 or 1.27 is s bit high for a stock clock. Get it off Auto vcore and drop it to 1.2v and see if the machine is stable. You can continue dropping it bit by bit until it's no longer stable. You will notice a big difference when dropping the voltage. At 1.2v my temps were high 70s. Now with a vcore of about 1.1v it only reaches low 70s. Plus it's cheaper to run as less power is needed to drive the chip.

Still your temps are fine. If it were 95+ degrees then you should be concerned.

found a lil page that had some o/c settings on it...got it to run at 3.8ghz at 1.18v but unstable...at 1.2v its running ok now stable...oh and off auto ofc temps still high in low 60's at full tilt, but it is at 3.8 ill play a little more tomorrow and reseat cooler as well

again ty for replys
