Worrying temps

Hi, my 6600 at 3.7ghz 1.5v idles at about 38c which isn't really concerning, however as soon as I load both core up 100% with prime 95, using "Core Temp" program which gets the exact temperature of both cores, the temps rocket in two seconds from 38c to 70c which I have to question the accuracy of, or if that's normal? After 70c the temps stabilise climbing to eventually 77c each after ten minutes which is where they remain.

I am using the Zalman CNPS8000 manually set to 100% fan speed all the time as noise isn't a problem in a server. Now the weird thing is, when i touch the heatsink, it is only warm to the touch, feels around 30, 35, certainly not hot, i can hold onto it with three fingers and it is nowhere near hot enough for me to have to let go.

I assume then that the cpu is either reading inaccurate (very high) core temps or the heatsink is not making good contact with the cpu ihs, but the thing is I am a very experienced builder and I kept both the cpu ihs and copper contact of heatsink clean, used sufficient zalman heat transfer paste and spread id all over with a credit card.

Very confused anyone got any ideas??

i get the same sort of thing..as posted allready. Core Temp at full load with orthos on both CPU's reads 70C and idle at low 40's....a very big jump if you ask me. Also Gigabyte Easytune reads about 64C full load and idels at mid 30's. i only have 1.4V on the CPU in bios and easytune reads a Vcore of 1.38V. Chip is currently at 3.5Ghz and dont have any stability issues at all. Its just reading very hot! My system temp reading at full load at the moment is 35C

I'm inclined just to ignore the cpu temp readings altogether, even with no heat transfer paste at all, if the cpu really was 70 celcius the heatsink would be warm, it doesn't even get that warm.

That fact its not warm suggests there may be bad contact between the CPU and HSF. I think coretemp is one of the most reliable cpu temp monitoring programs out there so I wouldnt discount it. You might want to try reseating the HSF or consider buying a scythe ninja or tuniq tower. You have to bear in mind that most people running @ 3.6ghz+ need watercooling to keep the CPU at a reasonable temperature. Those temps sound about right tbh

You might have a concaved cpu by the sounds of things. The only way to fix it is to lap it, this invalidates warranty though.
