As some of you may know i've been speccing up my new rig and low and behold I managed to get it all done for Xmas eve. Happy boy I was indeed!!!
Well until i started messing but more to that in a bit as you'll need to know spec:
Gene-z, 2500k, 8gb, 128gb SSD is the boring bits but the parts you guys can help me on is: (in this order)
Small Alphacool res, Llang D5 pump, XSPC RX360 rad(3 x Xigmatek 120mm fans), EK Supreme HF Block (Full Nickel) EVGA GTX480 Hydro
Nothing out of the ordinary and using 7/16" tubing. Flushed system then filled with Deionized water, after 2 hours of moving case upside down, on its side, pinching tubes etc I reckon i've got out all air bubbles BUT......
Idling roughly at 35-39 for CPU and GPU but i do have a reasonable ambient temp (must be 25 as the mrs loves the central heating) so not to bothered.
Stressing Intel Burn test on max and running a bench MSI Kombuster the GPU stays nice at 56 degrees i've seen as much as 73 degress on the CPU and this is on stock settings on the board. (I had 81 when using std turbo feature and promptly turned it off) Inline Water Temp read 51.3 degrees
Dont get me wrong, the system kicks ass. Plays BF3 at 1920x1080 on Ultra perfectly at 40fps(even with full MSAA) but the load temps do worry me slightly. I've tried a reseat of the CPU and also another fresh clean/coat of Arctic Silver 5 (used over the EK stuff provided) but with no reduction in temps. I know that having the CPU block orientated with the pipes vertical instead of the usual horizontal way may not be helping but at most that should be a couple of degrees, I've also got a 90 degree connector straight into the CPU block but again surely the combination of those shouldnt mean i'm reaching near the upper limit on stock settings.
It gives me hardly any room for overclocking and worries me that either i'e completely underspecced my rig or something just isnt right. (and yes i've taken off the plastic off the CPU block)
Flow seems to be as good if not better than my old Swiftech CPU block alone as I was worried the CPU and GPU block may be too much for the aging D5 but as per it creates a nice small fountain in the res.
