Worst car you've ever driven

this is a relative answer, as it was ridiculous bad considering my expectations, before anyone jumps on me and says it's far from a bad car:

53 plate Merc E320 CDI elegance estate.

where to start? Such an awful car! Absolutely awful engine and gearbox (auto), it got worse economy than my 330i sport despite driving it easier, it REALLY didn't like corners i think the steering wheel was put there for ornamental purposes only, the seats were awful and unsupportive and the ride wasnt even that great, it was that wafty that after a bump it took too long to settle back down.

Worst bit is? Apparantly thats how mercs are meant to feel, but imo it wasnt even relaxing, i felt sea sick on anything but the smoothest, straightest road. Ill reserve judgement against all mercs until ive driven a known good example as this couldve been a nail i suppose. It had only coverd 55k miles though :\

Surely better than a Vauxhall Cavalier, though?

LOL

WTF do you drive?

Maybach?

its a close call between a :

96 Hyundai Accent.
Think it was a 1.3 not sure tho and I honestly doubt it would have made any difference. The dash was made from shonkier plastic than is used to package razors, I dont believe that any attempt had been made to supress any mechanical noise from entering the cabin and as far wind noise, it sounded like the blower was on full constantly.
The brake pedal may as well have been an on/off switch tho in this case the on part would clearly have been borked as it took a crazy amount of time for the car to slow down under anything other than full on stamp the pedal braking. A truly awful awful car.

and a

58 Chevrolet Matiz
To save repeating myself all the points above pretty much apply directly to this car other than for a 0.8l car it cost a shocking amount of cash to run for the two weeks my mondeo was in for repair. Tho this could have had something to do with me having to rev it to the point that I thought armageddon was indeed taking place just to get some kind of progress. Oh yeah, and steering that appeared to connect the driver to the wheels via the Royal Mail such was the pondering timescale it reacted to input. I checked the list of this car at the time I had it, sure it was approx 8k... 8 thousand pounds when half that would put a ruddy good 2nd hand car on the drive. Thats nothing short of robbery.

I see many people complaining about the interior plastics, I'm kind of puzzled why care about what plastic is used in the interior, as long as it works & doesn't break & doesn't rattle or such surely that's all you want ?

Function>Form imo.

A white fiat 126 with pink fluffy bits in the interior, air cooled engine, ex girlfriends, she fell ill and I apparently needed to get it back from where it was parked. Horrid horrid experience, we split soon afterwords.

Astra Mk3 1.4, admittedly the wire in the tyres was showing in places, but just horrible in every way.

A close runner up would be a 1987 Ford Capri 2.8.

The back end was too erratic round corners and the front end far too long, very cool but by modern standards slow and awkward to drive.

You mean thats all you want. People have different needs and wants.

the Gold medal is between a

If ''people'' are driving, are they busy watching the road or the plastic in their interior  ?

ive only driven a year the cras ive driven are

Kia Rio 1.3 (shocking although i drove it once while learning i couldnt really drive then in honesty)
Seat Ibiza 1.0 (or 1.05) one of the two its a r reg. it is dangerously lacking power and a rust bucket, not designed for my frame either
Mini Cooper 1.6 Bros car i think its Nippy but i cant compare to much i found it hard to drive slow in car parks etc.
Mini One 1.6 Learned in it, liked it.
Peugeot 207 learned in it also took my test in it was a 1.6 sport. it was ok i guess, good to learn in put it that way.
the gf's pug 206 the same as above i feel it doesnt involve you in any way with want is actually going on but its a 1.4 and runs ok
mums 06 bmw 3 series 2 litre auto. on went 20 in it cant comment really
my fiesta 1.25 which i love in everyway :D dont think i could sell it tbh lol
and i think thats it.
the best imo is probly the cooper as it too me it shifted lol

2009 Chevrolet Matiz. Courtesy car. I'd pay so I could not drive it. It has no redeeming features. I even hate the key. Words cannot describe how bad it was.

Vento Diesel 1.9 (not tdi) with 250k miles on the clock. We had this since about 50k and it was always dull. But it was tough, and loads of space, and comfortable enough. Just very vague and rubbery to drive. Bouncy too even with new shocks. By 250k it was just terrible. Better then the Matiz though.

One point I'll make is that if your shocks are on the way out, and you've poor tyres, like new cheapo tyres it can ruin the handling of a car. Some people here have listed quite good cars, like a 306 or Mrk2 Golf. So I wonder were the cars just on their last legs?

Austin Allegro & Morris Ital.

Both Leyland junk!

Only redeeming feature of the Allegro was it didn't have the square steering wheel by then (1975 model) but spent more on repairs in the 9 months I had it, than the purchase cost.

As for the Ital, it was a 1.7 (I think) model, 5 years old when I bought it in '87. Within 5 months it had chewed the gearbox, warranty covered some of the repairs but still out of pocket by about £400.

So by comparison you can imagine, that I now love my Corsa will treasure it, pamper it and hopefully keep it until it's 20 years old!

LOL

WTF do you drive?

Maybach?

the ride on my 330i sport is much nicer, firm enough that you dont feel sick but not bone shaking, and it actually turns.......:p I REALLY didn't like the merc. It was the last of the old shape, not the new one, which im assured is again a lot lot better

We had the Morris ital 1.3 but I don't remember any problems with it. Probably the only one that didn't going on it's reutation. I wasn't driving at the time so never drove it.

Not had many cars, but I'm only 20.

By FAR the worst was my old Fez 1.8D - crap feedback, couldn't handle, spent £1000 on repairs in 10 months and it was rusting out to hell and back.

Car history:
Fiesta 1.8D
Rover 416i
Rover 420iXLD
Rover 620ti ( :D )

1.0 Corsa

This, I have had the dis-pleasure of driving 3 different Corsa's, all were terrible but the 1.0 was the worst. I still have nightmares to this day.

Drove a few old fiesta's and escorts that were horrible too.

Also once borrowed a rover 216 (J plate) off a friend, I used it for work and gave it him back, I'd rather have cycled the 15 miles to work lol.

Also I owned a Honda Civic 1.5 vtec-e (Rovic as I liked to call it) It was pretty slow, then the exhaust got blocked, the thing would struggle to hit 70 on 2 miles of dual carriage-way lol.

The main problem with the Ital (and its predecessor the Marina) was that about every six months the steering joints needed repacking with grease or the whole rack could (apparently) seize up then shatter on cornering.

Tough call between a '95 Vauxhall Corsa diesel and an '04 CityRover. The former probably just shades it - it was the car I learned to drive in, so had nothing to compare it to, but still knew it was very awful. Sounded like a poorly van while being terribly underpowered and the gear change was something else.

Can't say much about the CityRover as I couldn't get over how horrid the pedals were. Using the brake often meant I was pressing all three pedals at once and the clutch was more like an on/off switch.
