This is not an uncommon problem on W7 64 and can be related to the power settings so turn everything to on - ie - no powering down of unused devices - then if the problem deos not occur try turning the settings back to thier original state (individually) to pin point the setting, also check that any cable routing behind the MB tray (if there is any) is not restricted in any way between the case and the outer case cover. As already mentioned check all connections secure.

my older system with a thermaltake tough power 850 done this a couple of times on me
at the end its was the psu got a hemaltake tough power 1500 watt of this ite and it never happend again never...

Having done A LOT of stress testing and benchmarks, including more time on DOWII, there have been no instability issues at all. I don't want to jinx it, but it appears to be OK so far!

Have you got the fan in yet f00f1ght0r?
The screws aren't long enough for me so I've used some blu-tac until I find some.

Just gone in, I'll be back later when I check the temps.

Not sure where I'm gonna get screws, gonna look through a few forums see what the crack is.

On the good notee, my temps are way down :)

Nooo!

After just under a week of perfect PC performance, it just shut down on me during DOW II: Retribution campaign.

"The previous system shutdown at 23:51:51 on ‎27/‎03/‎2011 was unexpected." <-- shows how much use Windows Event Reporter is !

GFX cards were ramping up the fan speed around the time of it turning itself off; didn't have GPU-Z running unfortunately though.

Is there any good diagnostic software I can run to help narrow down/isolate what the problem may be should it occur again?

FurMark for 10mins gives the following on a windowed test:

Card 1 : 99'C
Card 2 : 51'C

For a fullscreen test:

Card 1 : 91'C
Card 2 : 90'C

The cards are standard, not overclocked or 'unlocked' in Catalyst Centre either.

Ran Memtest86+ all night, no errors.
SpeedFan reports System temp at a stable 36'C maximum during load.

Prime95 is reaching 67'C maximum with arctic silver 5 and the Noctua NH-D14 - the PC also restarted itself with a Corsair H70 being used too.

Seems like strangely high temps on Card 1.... I know some of the cards could run hot, but always thought the 6970's weren't too bad.... Could be an overheating on the GPU issue...

Try leaving Furmark running for say half an hour, and see if it forces a shut down due to heat?

my pc would freeze/reboot if the gfx card hit 99c, tbh even 80c would make it freeze

Hmm.

Could it in theory be to do with the game? It just seems weird that there is no error report at all. Or, I guess, the Sound Drivers...
