So yesterday i set about fitting the new "Quasar 240i" Intel Core i5 4670K @ 4.4GHz id recently bought from ocuk , that comes with a gigabyte Z87 D3HP mobo, id also ordered a samsung 250gb EVO SSD and a copy a win 7 ultimate and a H80.

Stripped out the old stuff from my case and fit all the new parts,no dramas so far until i try to boot it up,1st problem is that the pc wont post when my 6970 is installed, took it out, connected dvi to APU and it boots fine,so i go into bios and look for any GPU settings and disable APU,long story short the pc wont post with my graphics card installed at all, tried a different card in (ati 4980) and that boots fine,so tried my 6970 in another pc and that works fine ? i mean wtf ? PSU is a power and cooling 860 so im ruling that out for now so now im sat here using the upu while my ATI card is on top of my desk as the pc simply wont post with the card installed, tried both pcie slots too :(

I updated bios to see if that solved the problem but it didnt, and in doing so i think ive over writted the preinstalled OCUK over clocking profile that ive not even had chance to even load yet :( is there anyway of getting that back ?

and now all of a sudden my 1TB samsung spinpoint storage drive that has not skipped a beat in 2 years has suddenly died on me ? started making clicking and scraping noises then failed.....

Now thats to much of a coinsidence for me,graphics card wont work and HDD dies all of a sudden ? pulling my hair out tbh

yup tried both DVI's and the hdmi, i'll contact CS regarding the profile

had the psu a while and never had any problems with it,is there any way to test its stability with a programme or some thing ?

no idea but it won't

seen it on z77 and haswell, needs original 6950 bios

you got any links for that info wazza ?

looks like you may be right because my card IS a 6950 flashed to 6970 !

ive stripped the pc down to bare bones again tonight, tried it with the PSU outside of the case to see if there where any kinked wires or shorts anywhere and no joy , so i tried my old PSU the same way, a antec heo 500 and the card still wont boot, added the 4980 in again and it booted , again tried my 6970 in another machine and it worked fine , so looks like the card bios flash is the culprit.

with regard to the HDD im thinking now that i had the pc case on its back so the HDD was on its side for a while as i was booting, rebooting the pc several times, could that have caused a failure ?

Thanks chris, reading online suggests I buy a usb caddy and see if it will boot up that way. And ive tried in another pc, it spins up but then dies,it doesnt show up in any bios on either pc

@wazza,tbh I'm not sure what bios was on it as its been that long since I flashed and never had to alter it or reflash it as its been rock solid stable, until now :(
