Worth an upgrade from P67 to Z68?

I have one of the early P67 motherboards (asrock fatal1ty), if i remembered correctly there was some sort of a problem with all the early P67 boards... can't remember the exact problem... but they got replaced another revision or something...
Well i never actually got mine replaced so would there be any point in me to upgrade to a Z68 board?

The P67 problem was that after time, SATA devices wouldn't work or the transfer rate would be dismally low! This has now been fixed with the B3 fix.

As too updating. This depends on your GPU and if you want your board to die an early death!

If you have a great GPU, then I wouldn't bother, as the onboard graphics won't be needed from the CPU.

The Z68 gives the overclocking capabilities of the P67 chipset and the onboard graphics feature of the H67 chipset all in one.

As you never got your P67 replaced, I WOULD get an upgrade.

PLUS! The Z68 chipset allows the new Ivy Bridge processors to be used on the boards, protecting your upgrade path in the future.

I'd only upgrade if you intend to go ivy bridge or are using all the SATA II ports

My GPU is 6870 also using sata 3 and 2 hard drives/dvd drives... don't think i've had any problems with the transfer rate so far... but i am more concerned about if it can cause damages to my hard drive? Should i hold out until the ivy brigde processors are out then upgrade both cpu and motherboard?

It does, its all chipsets including the lowly H61 etc.

It's possible on rest of chipsets, too - but latest revisions of Z68 mobos come with PCIe 3.0 support, it's more important.

Im fairly sure the latest P67 boards will also support PCI-E 3.0 with an ivybridge cpu

If you got the money just go for the upgrade. It will secure you a safe path of an upgrade in the future with ivy bridge if you ever need that

I think you are right as it is controlled by the cpu not the board. However you'll just get one 3.0 slot on P67 iirc...

I didn't know about the SATA bug, but if you haven't been having problems with your hard drives then I don't see what the point of upgrading is. Your board will probably support Ivybridge too. Not sure about PCI 3.0 but you'll only need in a Crossfire situation, so why not wait until either the board goes or you need an upgrade? If you're concerned about the SATA bug then do a bit of research and find out if your board is affected by it before spending £150 on a new one.

Thanks to all the replies, I think I will upgrade sooner rather then later, I don't think I could risk the chance on any damages to hard drives. It's a shame as I liked this board also loved the red/black colours, I probably upgrade to Asus maximus iv Z68 which hopefully have no problems with.

Also do you think its worth trying to sell the asrock p67 board? obviously stating the sata problem...
