Hi Everyone,

Obviously, this is another Sandy Bridge Thread :p

I Use my PC for Gaming + Sometimes a bit of more CPU intensive tasks.

I Currently have a E8400 3Ghz Running stock with a Artic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro and 8GB 1066Mhz C5 Ram (As you can see in my Sig).

Is it worth Upgrading to Sandy Bridge on the 9th? Im Really Feeling a i7 2600 just for the Sheer power compared to my Lack of! :(

Yeah, got it to 3.8Ghz But it runs a tad too hot for my liking. 61C ish Playing Wow.
43C idle :(

If you have the cash and want a more up to date system then it would be worth it, you could however just OC a bit further and wait a while.

if it was my machine, I would:

sell my 260, and use the money I had from that to put towards a 570.

Invest in a better cooler and overclock the chip more.

Hmmm should I OC to 4Ghz then just Wait for socket 2011?
When's the rough launch of that?

It goes to roughly 61C. just seems Rather Hot? Especially when it's about 10C hotter.

that's fine at full load Clock that bad boy to 3.5Ghz
Wait for Sandy Bridge give it a week or two then buy a I5, I7 or AMD X6 in the price drop from the relies of Sandy Bridge. that what i am doing, if your only playing WOW then an I5 will monster it all day

I wont be playing WoW I'm stopping, ahah but all my games arnt as demanding as GTA IV or Crysis so I think I'd be cool :)

You have a Wolfdale and it's running at stock!! Ban tbh. :D

Seriously. Get it overclocked. The Wolfdales show great gains when overclocked and 61 degrees is nothing to be alarmed about.

Most E8400's hit at least 3.8-4Ghz. The E8500 in my second rig does 4.5Ghz so they are excellent clockers. Voltage wise don't go over 1.45v but ideally keep it at 1.4v or lower for 24/7 usage.

I have to agree...E8400...and a P45 chipset board...CPU running a stock speed...WTF!?

61C is hardly high for under load! And seriously is it even worth worrying about shortening the life-span of the CPU with the little extra heat (and it ain't even really hurting the CPU at all at under 70C)...now that the CPU itself worth no more than £50? :D Should definitely overclock the hell out of it and get the most out of it!

It's amazing the difference between temps on new tech tbh.. my i3 @4.2ghz playing WoW on full ultra hits maximum 44C, usually on 41

I would definitely overclock that CPU as others have said, you're getting nowhere near its full potential. You should be able to run pretty much any current game with that.

I'd wait at least until socket 2011, when the 2600Ks will no longer seem so fancy.
