As topic really, my cpu is quite toasty, its SD 3700 and idles about 46C because i keep the fan at 7v for noise, the chipset gets quite toasty too, and the big typhoon would cool that with the extra wingspan.

Would it be worth switching over?

The SD 3700 usually idles at about 30C unless:
a lot of volts are being pushed through it or:
There is no air flow through the PC or:
badly seated freezer 64 or:
The IHS is fitted poorly.
Having the fan spin slower should not make much difference at idle.

Other things to consider are:
A lot of mobos report incorrect temps. sometimes a BIOS update will fix this.
Try checking the temps with a probe.

I would check all the above before getting another cooler; generally it will only make a few degrees difference at most - unlikely to bring it down to 30C.

NB I have a SD cored 146 running at 1.42v with a Freezer 64 and as I type this the cpu is at 29C.

if you had no heatsink at all and had to go buy a new one i would say go for the big typhoon, but if your upgrading from a freezer to the big typhoon then im not sure the 23quid investment would make a really big difference.

best to get a better chipset heatsink like the nb-1.

if you got money to burn then go ahead and get the big typhoon but scythe ninja would be a more worthwhile upgrade.

I bought a chipset cooler, but the board (sapphire gruper) has a weird placed chipset (i think its just beside the cooler slot and not sure if it will fit, its why i was considering the big typhoon for the wingspan it gives).

Ill try reappling the AS5 and see if ive maybe put too much on.

Okay, well ive made a couple of changes, cant find any short nose pliers to get the chipset heatsink off at the moment, so ive put that on hold.

Ive cleaned off the arctic silver and had realised i had used a really old tube that had been opened for ages, i reapplied with a smaller amount after cleaning the heatsink and the cpu, ive moved the pc from the desk to the floor where its cooler.

I noticed before i started that it was idling at 50-51C, possibly because of a few things, low airflow in the pc, the fact my wife has the room like an oven, its sitting about 27C in here at the moment, the sweats running off me :) the pc is completely silent too, you could literally hear a pin drop all the fans are so quiet.

Anyway, idle now is 43C, much better. The NB is down from 54C to 45C too, so a good drop there, but i think ill still get the typhoon as it would cool the chipset too, since its right by it on this board.
