So I had a 5700x3d system and I was in the process of upgrading to a am5 system. But out of random luck i ended up with a 13900kf bundle at a zero cost trade. And id not had intel for years so wanted to play.

Now im wondering in the real world is there any point in me continuing with my am5 upgrade. I already have a motherboard but the cost of an 7800x3d is astronomical right now.
For just gaming at 1440 is there any point

At least if you were going to go AM5 it makes more sense to jump straight to 9800x3d now, but the cost is high for what would be less gains than just getting a GPU if you're gaming. 1% lows are the main thing I think!

Yes there is also going to be a GPU upgrade on the cards. I suppose I could just jump to the GPU and skip the am5

I'm pretty much in the same place. I need and want to upgrade, but the market is so poor that the cheapest option is the most attractive. The 9800X3D is a good gaming chip, but it's over-priced and so are the motherboards, and, worst of all, out of stock everywhere. And the latest intel offerings are horrendous. The 13th and 14th gens are decent CPU's.
I went for 7700 for this reason, I can't see point on spending £400 on a CPU.
Maybe ask yourself if you're happy with the performance of your new 13900kf? If yes then keep it.

i mean yes £400+ for the CPU im not 100% happy with and i have to be fair this chip dose do a good job, it just been drilled into me over the last 12 to 24 months that intel is poo and go AMD, thats why i was going to. thats why i have an AM5 board.

My friends son came home from uni with a mountain(no joke) of hard wear that he have no understanding of its value(autistic). his dad asked me to sell it all for him on ebay. and we struck a deal for CPU as i wanted to try it the newer intel chip's im sure the last one i had was a 6700 or 7700 and i wanted to see if it was a bad as people say.
i sold my CPU mobo and ram to get this as just a play thing like i say zero ££'s upgrade, i already had DDR5 ram

Bad decision to with the intel, zero benefit and lots of cons.
i already had the intel that was the point of the question.

what are the cons i need to look for?
the question is i have the intel... that i never planned on having. should i still go AMD as planned and offload the intel

The other night I paired a 9800x3d+4080 against a 12900k and a 4090 at 4k. The 12900k+4090 easily won at 4k. But at 4k CPU performance in most cases is taken out of the equation besides a handful of games.

At 1440p however where the CPU does come into play more the 9800x3d is ahead of the 13900k

I was looking at a 4080s or 7900xtx. I have to be honest at native 1440 I get over 110fps in most games at max setting with my current set up. I may wait and see what the 5000 cards bring cost wise.

Depends on the size of your house. We are supposed to be having a particularly cold winter. A 1300kf and 4090 are rated for 6 bedrooms and 7 with a 120mm fan pointed at the 12VHP connector.

I do have to be honest I have been opening a window after gaming for an hour or 2 haha

I can report the artic freeze 3 dose a good job.

You’ll see a nice boost in window opening times.

AM5.
The Core i9-13900K beats the 7800X3D easily: it's 32% faster in single-threaded work

so done some googling and watched some videos and at 1440p there is only an average of 8% differance, im just going to hold on for now. the AM5 bard will come in useful in the future no doubt

Yer we all know intel is/was faster at everything apart from gaming.
what you have to understand is in @jigger very extensive testing of zero chips in zero board he found that on google intel was faster but didnt like that and said it was AMD

Oh wait till the 9950x3d hits and there will be a bunch of 9800x3d on the members for sale forums. For a lot of people the 9800x3d is there main upgrade but there will be a few that using it as a temporary chip until the 9950x3d drops. Myself included.

im not on the members for sale forums

I think you need like 1000 posts or set amount of post within an alloted time I can't remember which. Should be easy enough for you. You can pick up a lot of bargains there. Most of the frequent posters there are trustworthy enough and they are very reasonable for pricing and negotiations.
I seen a thread about it where a guy had been kicked out lol… it’s a 1000 but they also said if you look to be rushing to get there they can ban you.. and TBF I dont know if I like the idea of paying random people over a forum.

I’ll have a look if/when I get there but based on my posting rate it will be September hahah
