Worth Changing?

probably! :)

What is it that you are doing on your PC that makes you feel like it is slow?

Is there something specific, are you staring at the hourglass and getting frustrated ? :)

You got a sandiego 3700+ and you wanna upgrade already?

Do you have no other hobbies/recreational activities other than your PC :)

I notice that 30% approx of the posters here are *really* fickle with their CPU's, you wait till the new AMD socket M2 platforms hit the shelves, you will see a lot of people drop their X2 processors as though they were a Slot A Thunderbird :)

Nought wrong with that, if you're system isn't struggling at the moment, I wouldn't bother.

Of course a 3800 should overclock to that sort of speed or maybe a bit more/less, but has less cache. You'll only see a noticeable improvement in multi-threaded apps and multi-tasking. Is it worth the £50-60 extra if you sold the SD?, only if you do a lot of the latter.

Jokester

Hell I've got an FX-53 & I've got the temptation to upgrade, I guess a few people out there just like to have the best of the best regardless of cost as crazy as it sounds, if people want to moan about people not been cost effective with the way people spend money well thats upto them at the end of the day its your money you do what you want with it - the whiners can just whine all they like gets abit boring after a while.

I'm waiting for AM2/M2 just for info. . . still tempting though.

why not just answer the question for him, an X2 3800+ probably would outperform the single core 3700+ when running multiple programs, as it has 2 cores with Windows x64, it would probably make more use of the 2 cores, with gaming im not too sure if there will be an overall big improvement, but at the moment, upgrading from a 3700+ to an X2 3800+ probably wouldn't be the best options in regards to the gain in performance, maybe wait a little longer i say, but Dual cores is the way forward i think.

Why question why he wants to upgrade? Are you his financial advisor?

I dont think so.

If the new M2 cpu's were anything more than an extra pin you might be right, but having DDR2 is hardly anything to get rid of my opty 170 for.

I mean my cpu is already running at FX 60 speeds.
Will be just as fast as the new M2 X2 5000

And having primed for 8 hrs last night at 2.75ghz,only 50mhz short of the new FX 62.

So I won't be getting M2 on its release. No point in my situation IMO. :)

And a hell of a lot of people on here with X2's running at around the 2.6 ghz mark.

Which most of the X2's do anyway.

As for the OP if you want to upgrade to dual core ,do it:)

An x2 3800 will usually do 2.6ghz any way .OK you sacrifice some cache but you wont notice in real terms.

and after selling your current chip the upgrade wont cost the earth either. :)

Lol, why question what I question? what are you the net-police :)

Freedom of speech and all that, but it was a simple question and may highlight an area of the ops system that could benefit more from an upgrade?

Hehe I don't think he needs permission :)

Anyway I don't think that every post needs to be *yeah yeah buy it*. Not everyone has the same point of view, so I see no harm with my previous post?

Now about these Opteron 170's :)
