Hi all,

i currently got a pair of 4GB kingston hyper x grey and they run at 1.65v. I was considering getting a pair of corsair vengeance slim white modules instead, and selling my hyper x grey.

Is it worth it?
are there better 1.5v modules that are also black/grey/white?

What spec are you running?

The only real benefit for lower voltage memory, apart from slightly less power consumption and heat, is for sandybridge setups (clocked SB especially.)

However, your Kingston should be able to run at recommended timings and frequuncy at sub 1.58V (SB related). Have you tried them at 1.5V and tested for stability?

Im running 2500k @4.6, i guess i should try at 1.5v then?

I just assumed they needed 1.65v because that was all they were rated for on the box.

That's a tested voltage that will guarantee that they will run at the recommended specs. The reality is that most sets will run sub 1.58V without any issues.

I would try 1.5V and if you start to experience stability issues bump it up to 1.55V.

Do I not remember Intel's specs saying that dimm voltage over 1.6 could do some serious hurt to a sandybridge...? :S

oh dear, im down 1.5v now just testing on memtest

Don't worry - anything below 1.58V is regarded as within tolerence and OcUK have found 1.65V to be OK with their independent testing - but they/we (forum users) still recommend sub 1.58V.

My point is i doubt you've done any lasting harm to your system - so breathe easy.

Have a read of this.
