Worth getting a dedicated NIC?

Waste of money in my opinion. The intel ones are pretty good but I wouldn't waste your time or money on a killer branded one.

they do claim that the dedicated nic cards can prioritise gaming traffic but i really doubt it'd make any noticeable difference, it's not as if you're going to be maxing out the 1Gbps card..

Unlike sound cards where it's much better to have a dedicated card the onboard NICs are perfectly adequate. The differences that even th killer cards bring is apparently 1ms and that's just not worth bothering with. If it were 20ms then that would be different. A cheap £5 NIC may actually be worse than an onboard solution.

If trying to maintain near gigabit throughput, there can be a benefit to some of the intel cards. The killer ones are not a clever purchase.

I would only bother with a dedicated if you wish to save a small bit of cpu time with checksum offload etc. I don't really see much if any gain from the intel one I have other than the fact I use it for LACP to get 2 gigs.

If it's an Intel onboard NIC, stick with it. If you want solid throughput get an Intel card for cheap.

I find Intel card about 20% better on through than Marvel Yukon on board, can't comment on Reaktek tho as I dont have any.
