Worth getting A dvi cable?

Hi all,

I have a DVI cablable monitor but im using a vga lead + adapter.

Is there a noticible difference between the 2.

Also, (and i expect the answer is no) I have 2 DVI connectos available, if I connected one to each end of the lead - would I have a dvi cable :)
 
I've found I prefer VGA over DVI, as I have more flexibity over brightness, contrast, etc... Might just be the cheap work graphics cards (a RADEON 7200 - I mean COME ON!!).
