Just looking for some general advice guys about buying a mac

I've always used a PC and recently bought this spec

Q6600
8800 GTX
IP35 Pro MB
2GB 8500 RAM

Absolutely love it since i'm a gamer, cod4, crysis, UT3 etc

Have been considering buying a mac as well after using them at uni, they are a nice change compared to a pc and windows but to be honest i just don't see the point in them over a pc (i would be keeping the pc as well by the way). Spec for spec they cost a lot more than a pc, and to be able to do any gaming i would need to install windows anyway. Main purpose of them from what i have heard is graphics work but i already use photoshop, 3D MAX etc on my pc so what exacley does a mac have to offer that a pc doesn't ?

I don't have anything against macs by the way, i am genuinely just curious about them.

Mac's just work. The OS is far more intuitive and stable than Windows and the performance blows it into the weeds. There's virtually nothing in the way of malware, no messing with registry settings and making sure the AV and Anti-Spyware software is working correctly. I work in IT support and the last thing I want to do I go home and fix my own PC.

The Mac Pro might appear at first glance expensive but it uses workstation level components (Xeon CPU, 5000X chipset, FB-DIMMS). An equivalent spec Dell or HP workstation usually comes out a couple of hundred quid more expensive than the Mac Pro.

Don't buy a Mac Pro to play games on. Keep your PC and buy a consumer level Mac to play with if you're interested.

I've got a Core2 rig with Crossfire etc for gaming. I use my MacBook Pro for everything else.

Coming from a 'specialist' gamer background the Mac 'consumer' machines are going to be a bad fit for you.

Like the poster above - I maintain a PC for gaming. When you roll your own PC any prebuilt looks over priced, never mind singling out Apple.

Everything sans gaming, is done on my Macbook.

A Mac is a bit like a Jaguar. Its never going to be the fastest thing out there and you could get the same performance from a much cheaper car. You buy the Jag for when you want to sit back and relax in a nice environment where things run smoothly.

And you pay through the nose for it. :D

Think of Apple as a boutique computer specialist.

Everything is more expensive, feels well built and generally made to match..
