Hi all,

I've been thinking recently, should I swap out my 770 SLI for a 970 SLI?

Currently, I've got 2x MSI Geforce GTX 770 (2GB) with a 750W power supply.

Looking around on various sites, I'm estimating that I can sell each of my 770's for ~£210 (±£10-£20).

OcUK are selling the MSI GeForce GTX 970's for £270 so multiply that by 2 and you get £540. £540 minus the money from selling the 770's and that would leave me with ~£120 (±£10-£20 depending on selling price of the 770's).

So yeah, a few questions really:
Is it worth paying an extra ~£120 for the 970's?
Would I need a better power supply than 750W?
Also, what are the physical dimensions of the 970? Is it longer than the 770?

Thanks

I mean, there's nothing wrong with the current setup that I've got at the moment but the temptation is there.... ;_;

What res you playing with? The extra Vram would be nice, but you said theres nothing wrong with what you have which leads me to believe you haven't ran into any Vram trouble. Id stick if you haven't got a real need to upgrade.

Only 1080p but I was thinking of upgrading to a 3 monitor setup in the future one of which being either a 4K or a 144Hz G-Sync monitor. I currently have two monitors (Asus VN247H and a Samsung SyncMaster T190).

Its totally worth it in my opinion.

I have SLI GTX680 2GB vanillas (similar to the GTX770 performance) and the SLI GTX970s.

One of the main reasons I upgraded was Vram as the GTX680s choked at 5760x1080 in BF4 at Ultra.

They are good performers and if they were 4GB versions they would run it fine.

Moving to the GTX970s I got a 4K monitor with them (Asus PB287Q) .

5760x1080 = 6.2 million pixels
3840x2160 = 8.3 million pixels

So the extra power from the GTX970s does help a lot.

The TDP for the GTX680 I have are ~195w while for the GTX970 is around ~145w so you should be fine with a 750w psu.

I got the Galax GTX970 EXOCs from OCuk

The 770s were 180 new from OcUK not long ago.

770 is not worth 200 2nd hand, when 970 is 250. You can find 690s on ebay for ~360, and I'd expect that to command a premium over two 770s.

Realistically, I'm only talking about the MSI ones and they've not been below £200.

Why change? At 1080p I think it's a waste of money.

Just a hypothetical situation really, wasn't exactly looking to upgrade for definite. Only speculating prices and such, deciding whether it would be beneficial or not for the long run.
