Currently im using just my onboard sound and medusa 5.1 headphones but im thinking of an upgrade. Is it worth buying a new sound card or would onboard be alright for headphones?

if u want clearer music that sounds perfect get a sound card if not stick with onboard i noticed hell of a difference and i only use technics headphones !!

Just a piece of advice on the Medusas - make sure they're calibrated properly.

I ran Creative's surround calibration wizard and also followed speedlink's advice (google their website) on setting sub crossover frequency (not sure your onboard will have this) and it makes a huge difference. I'm playing through Bioshock with the Medusas and and an audigy 2 and the sound is better than through my Sony/B&W hifi seperates. Much better than on my Creative Inspire Digital 5700 PC speakers.

This only applies to games by the way. They don't come anywhere near audiophile headphones for music.

Edit: Good for movies too.

Think mine's the original set. My main gripe is the interference they can pick up. My WiFi seems to make them buzz an if my mobile goes off while wearing them I get horrible interference. Aside from those problems I can't complain. Must have had them over 2 years now.
