Hello,
I currently have a 3870, but plan to get a 24" monitor within the next couple of weeks. Do you guys think it would it be worth buying another 3870?

I understand the 3870x2s are soon to be released, but an additional 3870 at £140 seems like a tasty option to me at the moment.

Any thoughts?
Cheers

Yes, crossfire scales very well! What is your CPU though as you dont want to be too limited tho the hike in resolution will certainly mean the second card will help :)

Thanks for the response :)

Currently have an e2180 which i plan to abuse (OC) this weekend.

You don't mention what you do with your PC. The only reason to go for crossfire is if you're gaming.

I use an ATI X1950XT with my 24" screen and I game in native res (1920 x 1200). I mainly play Company of Heroes, Total War and the HL2/Source-based games.

I'd recommend taking the wait-and-see approach. See what it's like with a single card. If performance is an issue, you then need to check if the game supports crossfire (Crysis didn't last time I checked, but there's been a patch since then) before splashing out again.

I think the 'wait and see' approach suggested by hbunny is a good plan (unless you have money to burn).

I have a 24" Dell run by a single (at the moment) 3870, it performs very well in many games at 19x12, and dont forget you can run games in 16x10 if your single card struggles at the native 19x12 res (imho the Dell scales down the res nicely).

Now, personally speaking, I will be going CF soon either with another 3870 or a 3870x2(and a new mobo & cpu) to play Crysis at 19x12 res, but why not wait and see for your games whether you need to splash out more cash?
